Do you have stories you’d like to share about the smelter school at Avalos?
J. Elena Navarro sent this photo from the 1986 reunion taken in front of the smelter school. From left to right: Charles “Chuck” Hardy, Katherine Bremer Alvarado, Unknown, Antonieta Bremer, J. Elena Navarro, Carmen and Carlos Bremer.
And this photo in front of the smelter school from my mother (left to right: Flossy Wilson, Yola Valdez and Yola Wildman). Thank you to Yola Wildman Nugent for the correction on the names! They sure wore interesting clothes to school back at the smelter!

The costumes are so wonderful. I noticed the witches hat and the rollerskates!
I would like to offer one correction to the names of children in the photo above: the little girl in the middle is my cousin, Yola Valdez from Chihuahua City, not Nina Gutierrez. Yola Valdez’ grandmother, Amelia Quintanilla was the manager of the colony hotel. Yola Valdez’ mother, Yoli Valdez de Quintanilla, did growup in Avalos and attend school there
This blog is wonderful. Thank you for starting something very special!
