I was born in Avalos in 1975, my grandmother is Bertha Elvira Velazquez Frasquillo (vda. De Lopez) we lived in Avalos My hole life until I was 18 and joined the military in Mexico. My grandparents lived in manzana 11 # 1 for 44 years, my grand father Ramon Lopez Garcia worked in the PLANTA for 54 years as an industrial plumber, I still have dreams about that wonderful life, I think I heard my grandmother mention the name of FELICITAS a couple times, and some stuff about that she was born in Morency AZ. Certainly that was a great place to live, and it will be imposible to forget. I hope you have a beautiful day and know that I still remember my elementary school ARTICULO 123, you all have a great day.

Thank you for sharing your story. My mother remembers where you grew up and she thinks that a friend of her family, Luis Rodriguez, lived in manzana 11 as well. My great-grandmother, Felicitas Martinez Morris, was born in Mexico and married my great-grandfather William James Morris (who was from Illinois, USA). They traveled around from the state of Durango, to Chihuahua, to Cananea, and into Arizona. They finally settled in Chihuahua and ultimately in El Paso, where they are both buried. I’ve tried to locate information about Avalos, but there isn’t much out there. If you have any photographs or stories you’d like to share, I would be happy to put them on my blog. After listening to all my family members and their friends that lived in Avalos, I know it was a special place.

I plan to go to El Paso to visit my Godmother when the weather cools. I live in San Antonio, TX and am still practising Nursing. I retired but am a Parish Nurse serving the poor in South San Antonio. My great influence was my grandmother, Catalina Young who died in 1926 ? She would go out to the “cuardas and be of service to the poor people. She would take the ASARCO Company doctor with her sometimes to see the sick people. My mother told me many stories about her.
I have many pictures to share with you regarding Avalos.
I spent many summers and enjoyed going to the weddings of friends in Chihuahua.
Hope your mom is doing OK. Please tell her that my brother is a grandfather of FIVE BOYS ! His oldest daughter just gave birth to TWIN BOYS this August 7th,2009. My brother’s name is Daniel Anthony Catania.

Mi name is Jorge Olivas and I was born in 197, I lived in Avalos Chihuahua since 1970 until 1979, mi father Victor Olivas Ramos works there since 1969 until 1987 as Security Cheaf. We lived in Manzana 14, in front of Articulo 123 school.
I remember some guys from there like Jaime Hernandez and Jesus Rodiguez, they lived in the Manzana 11 and Malena Mota who lived in manzana 23.
Avalos full my mind of beatufuls remembers!

Hi My Name is Angelica Ochoa and I was Born in 1971 i was Raiced my whole life in Avalos. My Father Worked For More than 50 years in La Planta De Avalos. My Father Was Daniel Ochoa Fuentes Also Known as Chito. we Lived and Still Live in the MAnzana 12 #6. I remember an Avalos Beautiful and full of people and i was very happy in my school Articulo 123. My father worked on the the parment of melting metal i dont know how to translate but it is called “Hornos” in spanish, and then he worked in the deperment of security. Shortly after he died when the plant stoped working. Alot of people left its life there. Now I hear that there trying to sell the place they want to construct a zoo there and i find it unfair. i belive this place isnt juss a place my family and other families have memories it is now 105 years old i bet you anything is more than $1,0000 by its year and history. People still live there like my Mother and My Sisters. Now I Have moved to denver CO i still visit every summer and less less people now live there it is old but yet we love it there now that that is were our childhood was at. I could not have a greater childhood that that one in Avalos.
Of course I remember Victor Olivas, Luis Rodriguez, and of course Jesus Daniel Lopez, you are our cousins!! your mom and my mom were cousins as well, as Lucy my sister told.

My name is Ana Maria Chavez Barron. I was born in Avalos in 1967. I lived there until I was 19, but my family still living there. I remember the most wonderful childhood in Avalos because we know everybody in there. We were just like a big family. My Parents past away two years ago, but until their last moment they keep saying they love Avalos, just like me. My fathers’s name was Ramon Chavez Olivas, and my mother’s Guadalupe Barron de Chavez,we lived in the manzana 30 # 16. I hope some of you remember my father. He used to work as a “velador” in the front gate of the Planta de Avalos. I go every year to visit family and friends. I have a lot of articles and stories of Avalos in news papers. Now I live in Los Angeles California, but I always going to love Avalos!!!

Hola Aidee, ya son muchos anos pero nosotros vivimos al lado del Ingeniero Rodriguez y al otro lado vivian la familia Chavez, nosotros viviamos en la 14 #13 hasta el ’67 cuando nos fuimos a vivir a Lerdo Dgo y luego nos regresamos en el ’70 para vivir en la colonia en el molino. En el ’75 nos cambiamos a vivir a El Paso y hasta ahora aqui seguimos casi todos, saludos.

Hi, my father is Luis Rodriguez Andreani, son of Luis Rodriguez Magallanes and grandson of Domingo Andreani. I have great memories of Avalos where my father, grandfather and greatgrandfather worked all their lifes. I use to spend many weekends at my grandparents Luis and Maria (tita Maris) whom I loved sooo much, at their house in Avalos and I also spent some time at la colonia americana with my childhood friend Leonardo Llamas. And yes, Leo and mysel did break a lot of the public lights at the colonia with bb guns and sling shots. Great memories ! I live in san Antonio, TX and my father still in Chihuahua. I’m letting him know of this blog.
