From the Transactions of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, a biography of Thomas Septimus Austin (1853-1906), General Superintendent of the Southern Department of ASARCO, who was instrumental in building the Avalos ASARCO smelter, among others. “The professional career of Thomas Septimus Austin, who died at El Paso, Tex., Aug. 23, 1906, was contemporaneous with the growth of the silver-lead smelting-industry of the Far West, to which his talents and zeal contributed in no small degree.” Thomas Septimus Austin was the great-uncle of Catherine Austin Thomas.

I’ve abbreviated the original version, which was digitized by Google, to include just his biography: Thomas Septimus Austin Biography.

Also, a short obituary in the NY Times: Thomas Septimus Austin Obituary.
